ORGANIZATION OF THE LEGISLATURE.

The Wisconsin Legislature met Wednesday of last week, January 14th, 1874. Both houses were promptly organized by the election of the caucus nominees of the Republicans in the Senate and of the "Reformers" in the Assembly.

The officers of the Senate are, Chief Clerk, J. H. Waggoner, of Richland; Assistant Clerk, R. A. Gillett, of Monroe; Book-keeper, T. S. Ansley, of Iowa; Enrolling Clerk, W. L. Abbott of Clark; Engrossing Clerk, Mrs. Fannie Vilas, of Dane; Sergeant-at-Arms, O. U. Aiken, of Fond du Lac; Assistant Sergeant, E. J. Cole, of Lafayette; Postmaster, A. J. White, of Winnebago; Assistant, Niels Michelet, of Dane; First Door keeper, M Lynch. The elective officers were chosen by a vote of 17 to 16 for the opposition.

In the Assembly Gen. Gabe Bouck, of Winnebago, was elected Speaker by the votes of the opposition and one Republican— Comstock, of Trempealeau. Hon. J. Bowman, of Columbia, received the Republican votes for speaker. Geo. W. Peck, of the La Crosse Democrat was elected clerk over E. W. Young, and Joseph Deuster, of Milwaukee, was elected sergeant at-arms over C.C. McIntyre.
