Full Text

At a political meeting in Brooklyn recently Mr. Beecher remarked: "Mugwump friends, we have not been mistaken in the man who now sits in the presidential chair. He is a singularly wise man. He has demonstrated to us his honesty and fearlessness. He labors not for any party, but for the good of the whole nation, certainly as well as any president who has ruled us within my lifetime."

And yet the president gives it out that he earnestly desires the success of the Democratic ticket in New York, while Beecher affirms that the way to indorse the president is to elect Davenport. There is a mistake out somewhere, and we fear the Plymouth pastor will have to father it.
