TALLAHASSEE, June 4.—The House today killed a proposed constitutional amendment to create the office of state tax commissioner.
The vote for submitting it to the electorate was 48-44, but it lacked the necessary 57 affirmative votes.

Supporters contended state control was needed to bring about a uniform taxation system.
It was the first time a major part of Governor Holland's tax program failed to carry.
Representative Bernie Papy of Monroe voted against the proposed constitutional amendment.
