It may not be amiss to inform the Publick, that Post Riders are established from New York, to Albany, Crown Point, Montreal, Trois Rivieres and Quebec, and Letters dispatched to and from those Places once in a Fortnight. A Printing Office is also established in the City of Quebec, and a News Paper, Published there Weekly, under the Title of The Quebec Gazette. (La Gazette de Quebec.) The News, Advertisements, &c. contained therein, are in both the English and French Languages: The Paragraphs of News in English have the same in French printed on the opposite Columns. This Method is like to be very serviceable to People of both Nations, but more especially to the Canadians, who have hitherto been ignorant of the Transactions in distant Parts of the World, and even in their own Neighbourhood. It is probable that in a short Time no Part of North America, will be destitute of the Means of propagating Knowledge among the Inhabitants; and of enlightening those Tribes that have been long in Heathenish Darkness. We would just inform our Readers that it is not much above Sixty Years since there was but One Paper published in ALL North America; some Years after an Attempt was made to publish another, but it met with great Discouragements, People judging that two News Papers would be more than this Continent and the West India Islands could support: At this Time there are above twenty published; and it is generally looked upon that News Papers are the cheapest Way of attaining to the Knowledge of Mankind and the World; provided they are not hindered by that infernal—a Stamp Duty.
