Full Text

Destructive Fire.—A fire broke out this morning, about 5 o'clock, in the extensive and valuable Oil Manufactory of Samuel Leonard, upon Leonard's Wharf, which was entirely destroyed, with all the presses, vats, boilers, &c. A part of the stock was saved; but how much, and in what state, it is impossible to learn. Mr. Leonard was insured at the Hartford Fire Insurance Company's Office for $10,000, and at the American Insurance Company's Office, Providence, for $8,000. His loss we are not able at present to estimate. The fire communicated to the Try-Works and Whitening-House and Sheds of Mr. Nehemiah Leonard, which were contiguous, and were also destroyed, with 1,500 barrels Sperm. Oil belonging to N. Leonard, B. S. Perkins and others. N. Leonard was insured at the Providence Washington Insurance Company's Office for $9,000; and Mr. Perkins was insured at the American Insurance Company's Office for $3,000. All the above property is very valuable, and it is generally understood that the Insurance is utterly inadequate to cover the loss.
