A Delightful Entertainment Last Night at Masonic Temple.
The Mendelssohn Quintette Club gave a delightful concert at the Masonic temple last night under the auspices of the Young Men's Christian Association.
There was a full house, and everybody was so enthusiastic over the affair that each artist was compelled to respond to an encore.
Miss Juel sang the "Cara Nome," from the opera of "Rigoletto," which was her first aria, and for an encore she rendered "Annie Laurie."
Mr. Herbert played for an encore a wonderful rendition of the "Carnival of Venice."
Mr. Ryan's encore was his famous "Robin Adair."
Mr. Diestel gave a charming gavotte by Popper for his encore.
Mr. Marcosson, the Kentucky violinist, played the Hungarian airs by Ernst, and for an encore the "Traumerei," by Schumann.
The club played the minuet by Boccherini, instead of the andante from the quartet by Tchaikovsky.
It was a notable concert from first to last. Not to be overlooked was the suite for quintet by Mr. Ryan, the father of the club. The work shows unmistakable musical ability on the part of the composer.
