Newspapers Praised For Fine Cooperation
Progress, interest, and enthusiasm in all phases of agriculture are credited, in a large part, to the splendid cooperation of State newspapers. From an educational viewpoint alone it would have been impossible to make the strides forward, as revealed in the past year's results and compared with previous years, if it had not been for the splendid cooperation and interest manifested by editors of papers over the entire state.
Consequently the Agriculture Department news service, which has extended over a period of ten and one-half years, and which is generally looked upon as one of the most alert, is ever and always striving to give all assistance to newspapers possible, keeping them posted on scientific research and developments regarding farm diversification.
Newspapers are generally credited as being the "back-bone" of any community, giving freely of their space in conveying needed information and in the molding of opinions toward progress and development. Agricultural well-being has not been an exception to this rule, and much of our state's agricultural progress is truly attributable to the very fine leadership and initiative shown by papers during the past year.
It is generally realized that newspapers are crowded and cannot give as much promotional space to various projects as they would like, but in this connection items on the progress of agriculture have been an exception to the rule; for, during previous years state papers have contributed freely of news space on given articles and have given unselfishly of their best thoughts in editorial comment.
As a result of this splendid work on the part of editors and their staff-writers, the New Year dawns on agriculture with a more optimistic and encouraging viewpoint. "Better things are in store for us," said Commissioner Holton, and with the cooperation of all Mississippians, as well as the press, these better things will be realized.
