Full Text
Mr. Thornton, lately appointed the Minister of Great Britain to the Brazils, has been represented, in the Philadelphia Union, to be an "implacable enemy of the United States." A correspondent requests us to correct this statement, if incorrect. To which letter we reply, (not knowing the writer,) that the residence of Mr. Thornton in a diplomatic capacity in this country took place before our entry into public life; and that we have no personal knowledge of him whatever. Of course we know nothing, and, it may be proper to add, we have not heard any thing, to his disparagement.
