POINT BARROW.--The 28 natives who went from here to board the derelict trading ship Baychimo, which was sighted seven miles off shore early in the week, and who were trapped on the vessel when a heavy wind drove the ice-bound ship out to sea, returned home yesterday, having been rescued at the edge of the ice pack by boats which were sent out for them when it was seen that they were in peril. The adventurers reached the vessel last Sunday, after ten hours of hard mushing over the rough ice. About three hours after their arrival at the ship it was discovered that a strong easterly wind had started the ice pack moving westward, and the natives immediately set out for the beach. Before they reached the end of the pack, however, they had been blown thirty miles off shore. With food supplies exhausted, the natives scattered in small groups for the purpose of hunting seals and bears, and finally reached the edge of the pack by Wednesday night. They were picked up there by the boats which had been sent to rescue them, but not until after there had been considerable maneuvering through leads and around barriers. The natives say the Baychimo apparently is in good condition, except for a small crack on one side. They think with the aid of dynamite the vessel could be freed and floated to open water.
