Mrs. Booth, Suicide And Former Employe, Denies Any Connection With Matter

There seems to be some tendency to connect a shortage in the County Trust Company of Maryland, at Salisbury, with the death, by suicide, of Mrs. Kathryn Booth which occurred on Thursday of last week. Mrs. Booth had been an employee of the bank up until November 2, when she

resigned to accept a position on Draft Board, No. 2.

The bank shortage amounts to a trifle over $3000, and is, of course safely taken care of by bondsmen.

Letters left by Mrs. Booth deny that she was implicated in the matter and there seems to be some intimation that another person is involved.

In announcing that a thorough investigation was under way, the directors of the bank issued the following statement over the signature of William F. Allen, president of the bank:

"Discrepancies in the record of the Salisbury bank of the County Trust Company have been discovered showing an apparent shortage of approximately $3,100 and auditors are now investigating the affairs of the bank.

The office of the State Bank Commissioner has been notified and as a supplement to the official investigation, an independent firm of auditors, has been engaged by the bank to make a complete examination.

"No charges have been brought against any persons. However, all information revealed by the investigation will be placed in the hands of the proper authorities for their action.

"The discrepancies found to date are minor. Although we now see little likelihood that the shortage will be substantially increased, all of our employees are amply bonded

"The investigation is proceeding as rapidly as possible."
