Full Text

Gen. Shields---His Future.

A telegraphic dispatch to the New York Tribune, a few days ago announced that Gen. Shields, the new Senator from Minnesota had taken his seat among the Republicans in the Senate, and on the first day of his official career voted with the Republicans. We trust, and it is the generally received opinion, that this is a preliminary to his future connection with our party organization; and should this belief be verified, it will not be long until he becomes a bold, vigorous and manly defender of freedom against the encroachments of the Dred Scott-Buchanan party.
