Restriction Falling
NEW YORK—Opportunities for jobs without restrictions as to race or color are steadily on the increase.
This fact makes solid occupational information extremely essential for teachers, counselors and others to assist them in helping youth plan their vocational futures.
The need has prompted the publication of the National Urban League's Vocational Opportunity Kit. The Kit is designed to facilitate the dissemination of facts on job training and the variety of occupations which Negroes now hold and which formerly were barred to them.
Although the Kit has been prepared especially for use during the League's 23rd Annual Vocational Opportunity Campaign March 12-20 popularly called VOC, it will be useful also during the entire year.
The Kit is only one of the League's many vocational guidance services provided by the department under the direction of Miss Ann Tanneyhill, Director of the League's Vocational Services.
"The campaign this year takes on new meaning," said Miss Tanneyhill, "because of the May 17 decision on the public schools."
"And for the first time," she continued, "the campaign will be directed at both Negro and white youth and their parents. Therefore, we are providing material containing information and suggestions to help build better understanding among all young people as they learn—in preparation for the time when they earn. Because getting along with other people is basic to job success."
In addition to League publications such as "A List of Free and Inexpensive Literature Relating to Vocational Guidance and Occupations," materials include several pamphlets distributed by other agencies, among which are: "Educational Aids for High Schools," and "Educational Aids for College" Pamphlets, film guides and other materials published by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, are also included.
The Kit sells for $1.00 and can be secured by writing to the National Urban League, 1133 Broadway, New York 10, N. Y.
