WASHINGTON
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31.

The election of Directors, on the part of the Stockholders, for the Bank of the United States, took place at Philadelphia on Monday last. The result is not known; but it is believed those (named below) nominated at a public meeting of the subscribers from fourteen States, have been elected by a considerable majority: The Directors already appointed on the part of the U. States, it will be recollected, are William Jones, Stephen Girard and Pierce Butler, of Philadelphia; James A. Buchanan of Baltimore, and John Jacob Astor of New York.

Extract of a letter from Philadelphia, dated on the evening of the 28th inst.

"The republican stockholders, of which General Mason of the District of Columbia, was Chairman, held a second meeting this morning, just after the election for the Bank of the United States was opened, and so far altered the ticket adopted at the meeting of Friday evening, as to fix on the one enumerated below.

There is a decided majority of the friends of the government on it, and it will be carried. Mr. Cutts' name was left out, only because it was discovered that, in point of form, he is not a stockholder; that is, it has awkwardly happened that his brother, in subscribing a parcel of stock for him on the books in Boston, put it in his own name, instead of that of Mr. Richard Cutts, the real proprietor."
