FINANCE CAMPAIGN, BOY SCOUTS, TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH

Plans were made at the meeting of the Gastineau District Committee of the Boy Scouts last night on the finance campaign to be held in Juneau and Douglas sometime in October.

The visit of O. D. Sharpe, regional executive for Region 11, to Juneau on October 10 was announced by Curtis Shattuck.

Sharpe comes from his visit of two other Boy Scout headquarters cities. Fairbanks and Anchorage. From here he will go to the fourth, Ketchikan.

In conjunction with Sharpe's visit in Juneau will be the district committee meeting and court of honor.

A district board of review will be held at the Boy Scout office next Wednesday evening for star, life and eagle awards to be presented at the court of honor, said Rev. S. A. McPhetres. He is chairman of the district advancement committee.

At last night's meeting, M. J. Whittier was elected for a one year term as district chairman replacing Curtis Shattuck. Shattuck has held the position for the last two years.

A complete report on the Eagle River Camp held this summer was given by Whittier. He had held the position of camping activities chairman for the past two years.

Plans were outlined by Henry Harmon, district chairman of organization and extension, for organization of several new Boy Scout units. Included in the units will be one for handicapped boys at the Orthopedic Hospital in Sitka.

Harmon also stated that membership had increased by 60 boys over this time in the units within the Gastineau District. Towns included within the district are Ketchikan, Sitka, Douglas and Juneau.

Scout Executive Maurice Powers reported to date on plans for Alaska Scouts to attend the National Jamboree to be held next summer at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
