A MONSTER SNAKE.—Mr. John Davis, a teamster on the farm of Squire Gifford, in the northwest part of New Bedford, Massachusetts, lately had a sight of the great black snake which has been so often seen in that vicinity. He was resting quietly in the road when Mr. Davis approached, when he made off as fast as his muscles would carry him. Upon an accurate measurement of the form where he was resting, it appeared that he was eighteen and a half feet long, and Mr. D. thinks about a foot and a half in circumference. A little fellow of the same genus, about five feet long, was killed in the same vicinity, a few days since.—New Bedford Mercury, 23d.
