An unfortunate accident occurred at Savannah (Georgia) on the 4th inst. while the artillery company were engaged in performing the honors of the day.--A young gentleman by the name of Jacob Fox, who acted as a gunner to the field piece, neglected to sponge properly; and left some wad on fire in the piece; putting in the cartridge, it caught about half way, and went off--the sponge staff carried away one arm and one hand, and broke the remaining arm in three different places.--A young man by the name of Robert Greer was passing about ten steps in front of the field piece at the time; the sponge staff took him on the left side and came out in front, carrying away with it his heart and some of his entrails: he fell, and expired without a groan.
