EDITOR JOURNAL—
Sir: I notice in No. 43. of your Journal, an article in regard to Post-Master, at our place (Cynthiana) which in the main is correct. But here let me tell you that the new appointee, Mr. Green Hindman, took charge of the office on New Year's day, but on looking into the arduous duties and great responsibility of said office, he wished to decline from serving the dear people in said capacity for the pitiful sum of from $12 to $15, per quarter. Then he sent a messenger to know if Mr. Silas Jones, would not take the office back, which he stoutly refused to do until intercession was made by friends, when Mr. Jones, agreed to accept. I will here say that no decapitation was ever more regretted than that of Mr. Jones, from the fact that he was capable and honest. Also in justice to Mr. Hindman, I will say I do not believe he ever really desired the office but yielded to the wishes of his friends, and the motive that prompted the decapitation of Mr. Jones, I leave to the keen discerning eye of a scrutinizing public.

Main Argument
the letter corrects details of the cynthiana postmaster appointment, explaining hindman's brief tenure and decline due to low pay, leading to jones' reinstatement; it regrets jones' removal as he was capable and honest, and defends hindman's reluctance.
