WHITE VS. GRUENING
Albert White, general counsel of the Republican
party in Alaska, has renewed his challenge to debate,
at Juneau, issues of public interest with Governor
Gruening, or any qualified administration spokesman.
Such an exchange, we believe, would be of unusual
interest to all Alaskans. To the people of Juneau, it
would be an unprecedented opportunity to hear, at
first hand, both sides of the questions that will con-
front voters at the coming Territorial election.
Both men are interesting speakers. Both have
displayed intense interest in Alaska's public affairs.
Both are thoroughly conversant with the aims and
policies of their respective factions.
As chairman of the Republican Party's Special
Committee to Investigate Corruption in Government,
Mr. White is probably better qualified to speak on the
selected subjects for debate than any member of his
party. His long years of leadership in Republican
circles have given him an intimate understanding of
his party's objectives and the needs of Alaskans.
Governor Gruening's familiarity with the opera-
tion and problems of his administration is beyond
question. Although the Governor is a comparative
newcomer to Alaska, he has proven himself a prac-
tical and persuasive politician.
Mr. White has offered to defray hall rental and
other expenses incident to the meeting. He has sug-
gested that a fifty cent admission be charged and the
proceeds turned over to the Cancer Fund.
Both Mr. White and Governor Gruening have an
opportunity to serve their adherents, inform the people
and benefit a most worthy cause.
We hope that the public will not be denied the
pleasure of hearing their discussion of Alaska's gov-
ermnent.
