Full Text

An Extract of a Letter from Amsterdam, dated Aug 30.

Our last Advices from Lisbon intimate, that the Negociation of the Portuguese Court and that of London is absolutely determined, and that the Friendship between the two Nations is considerably augmented since the Lord Tyrawley's being at Lisbon, to put the last Hand to its Re-establishment, but it's at the same Time perceiv'd, that the good Understanding between his most Faithful Majesty and the Catholick King diminishes, and without the real Cause of this Alteration being discovered: It's nevertheless presum'd, that the Treaty sign'd by the late King with the Crown of Spain, which, by force of its Articles, is far from being advantageous to the Portuguese, may possibly in Part, be the Cause of this Coldness; for whatever may have been published, it's indisputably true, that it is not even remember'd at Lisbon but with Chagrin, especially when there happen, in the Course of Commercial Affairs, Disadvantages which have their Rise from that Original.
