In Senate.
Tuesday, January 2, 1810.
Senate being called, and a sufficient number appearing to form a quorum for business, proceeded to open the returns from Kent and Sussex counties, when it appeared that James Sykes, Esq. was duly elected a member for Kent and George Mitchel, Esq. for Sussex. The Senate then proceeded to the choice of a Speaker, and James Sykes being duly elected, and having taken the oath prescribed by the constitution, took the chair.—John Barratt was elected Clerk, and Nathaniel Boyer Serjeant at Arms.
The following resolution was then submitted by Mr. Way:
Resolved, That the Speaker of the Senate be, and he is hereby authorised and empowered to issue his writ, directed to the Serjeant at Arms or his deputy, commanding him forthwith to bring before the Senate the body of Francis Haughey, late sheriff of New-Castle county, to shew cause, if any he may have, why the returns of senator for New-Castle county has not been made according to law.—Adopted.
Whereupon, the writ was issued accordingly.
Adjourned till ten o'clock to-morrow.

Mr. Cummins presented a petition from the commissioners of tax for Kent county, praying for a law to extend till February the time for assessors to complete their assessments.—Referred.
The Sergeant at Arms returned the writ and delivered the body of Francis Haughey.
Adjourned till 10 o'clock to-morrow.
