THIRTY COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE MEET HERE.
Field Meet Will Be Held On Barrow School Campus—Full Program Is Announced: Much Interest.
Lowndes county public schools will come together for a big county field day meet in Columbus Friday, April 2.
The meet will be held on the Barrow Memorial School campus and the thirty white public schools in the county are expected to send large numbers of students to the meet.
Superintendent E. A. Stanley announces that holidays for Friday will be allowed the schools which participate in the meet and the teachers will receive their regular pay for that day.
The program will begin at 10:30 o'clock in the morning and the last event of the day will be a baseball game at 3:30 o'clock.
Events and a full program for the occasion has been arranged under the direction of Prof. J. C. Meadows, superintendent of city schools, assisted by Miss Dewetta Burkett and Prof. Brandon, directors of physical culture and athletics, respectively, in the city schools.
Teachers and school leaders in the county have had a part in the framing of the program and the arrangement of the event.
Schools and their students are urged to bring basket dinner and provision will be made on the ground for suitable places for the spreading of lunches. Lunches will also be sold on the ground by local societies.
10:30-11:00—High jump, boys under 80 pounds, boys under 110 pounds, boys over 110 pounds, girls under 80 pounds, girls under 100 pounds, girls over 100 pounds.
11:00-11:30—Running broad jump, boys under 80 pounds, boys under 110 pounds, boys over 110 pounds, girls under 80 pounds, girls under 100 pounds, girls over 100 pounds.
11:30-11:45—50 yard dash, boys under 80 pounds, girls under 80 pounds.
11:45-12:00—One half mile relay, girls under 80 pounds (team of four girls); pole vault, boys under 110 pounds; pole vault, boys over 110 pounds; shot put, boys under 110 pounds; shot put, boys over 110 pounds; base ball throw, girls over 100 pounds.
1:30-2:00—220 yards dash, boys under 80 pounds; potato race, girls under 80 pounds; 440 yard dash, boy under 110 pounds.
2:00-2:30—60 yard dash, girls under 100 pounds; 100 yard dash, boys under 110 pounds; 75 yard dash, girls over 100 pounds; 100 yard dash, boys over 110 pounds.
2:30—Volley ball, Barrow vs. Franklin (no points awarded for this.)
2:30-3:00—440 yard run, boys under 110 pounds; one half mile run, boy over 110 pounds; one fourth mile run girls over 100 pounds.
3:00-3:30—One half mile relay race boys under 110 pounds (team of 4); one mile relay race, boys over 110 pounds (team of 4); one half mile relay race, girls over 100 pounds (team of 4.)
3:30-5:00—Base ball game.
Individual contests, winner of 1st place, 2 points; 2nd place, 1 point.
Relay team contests, winner of 1st place, 3 points; 2nd place, 2 points.
Students and visitors may bring their lunches with them or may purchase them at stands on the grounds.
