Resolutions of the Senate of the state of Georgia, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1799.
"Resolved, That the Legislature of the state of Georgia, so far concur in Opinion, with the Legislatures of the states of New-Hampshire, Massachusetts and Delaware, that every constitutional barrier should be opposed to the introduction of foreign influence into our national councils.
"And be it further Resolved, That, in coincidence with the Legislature of Virginia, the Constitution of the United States be so amended, that no foreigner, who shall not have acquired rights of citizenship under the constitution and the laws at the time of making this amendment, shall hereafter be eligible to the office of Senator or Representative in the Congress of the United States, nor to any office in the Judiciary or Executive Departments.
"Resolved also; That the Legislature of the State of Georgia, do disagree to that part of the proposed amendments, which deprives persons of their present eligibility to office, as improper and oppressive."
And the said resolutions being severally read, were unanimously agreed to.
