Full Text

Florida. The Tallahassee Floridian, of the 1st inst., contains the following paragraphs: 'We have been much gratified within the past week, on learning that emigration is settling with a steady tide into our territory. Since the last census, our population has increased with a rapidity unknown to the old States. Gentlemen inform us, especially from the Middle and Eastern sections of Florida, that the emigration since 1840 has been at the rate of from 20 to 40 per cent. upon the population, as shown by the census then taken. We are assured that our present white and negro population will equal, if not exceed, 80,000 souls.

We have ever believed that Florida is destined to become densely populated. Why should she not? She possesses every variety of soil, producing all the fruits of the tropical regions—coffee and the sugar cane have arrived to perfection. A few miles South of us, potatoes grow all the year.'
