From Nauvoo. The hatred existing against the Mormon population among some of the citizens in the adjoining towns, broke out in acts of hostility by the latter, because the Mormons did not hasten their removal fast enough to suit them. A lawless gang, calling themselves 'Regulators,' determined that every Mormon should leave the place, and to drive off such as were not disposed to go. On the 12th inst. they assembled in arms about 400 strong, near the city, for the purpose of expelling the Mormon population, and destroying the temple. But a message from the city, informing them, that "if any armed force should attempt to enter the place with a mischievous intent they would have to enter over the dead bodies of 300 free American citizens, who have recently purchased homes in Nauvoo, and established a residence upon property vacated by the Mormons,"—had the effect to check their farther advance, for the time. After some consultation between the two parties, without effecting any thing satisfactory, the mob retreated to Carthage to reinforce, collect artillery, &c.

A few paragraphs from the Louisville Journal will give the reader some idea of the dastardly conduct of the Anti-Mormon mob:

"Some extra excitement was manifested by several persons yesterday on the arrival of a Mormon who has suddenly abandoned his home. He states that, while absent a few days ago, trying to sell property, a mounted force visited his house and alarmed his wife by ordering her off forthwith. After the party had left, the leader returned and treated her in the rudest manner. He offered her the privilege of remaining, provided she yielded to his wishes; and forcibly attempted that which he could not negotiate for.

One of the propositions which have been offered is to send a force into the city strong enough to put all the remaining Mormons on the Iowa side of the river, or at any rate to carry them out of the country. This, the people both of Iowa and the surrounding counties object to, as it will surely entail upon other communities the burden of hundred of paupers who will not have a roof to shelter them or food to subsist upon.

The sale of the Temple and the balance of the church estates, would enable the trustees to send off every man, woman and child; and this would have been effected long ago but for the constant agitation which has been kept up in other portions of the county.

The "Regulators" now say that the trustees must leave forthwith, and hand over their business to others; but as it was remarked by one of the speakers at the last meeting, "it is not at all likely that any but such as would use their influence against the place would be acceptable." This is not the only difficulty. Hundreds have thrown their property into the hands of the trustees to sell, and it would require weeks to instruct others as to the nature of titles, and the condition of their estates.

If hostilities against the place should cease, they can sell out, temple and all, in a few weeks, and wind up Mormonism in Illinois forever. These are the views of the new citizens who have spoken on the subject, and the only rational position which can be taken."
