Full Text

Appointment by the President.

Grandison D. Royston to be U. S. Attorney for the District of Arkansas.

Of this appointment the Gazette says, "Mr. R. was not recommended by us for this appointment—but it is due to him to say that he is a diligent and competent officer; and one who will no doubt give satisfaction to the State, as well as his republican friends who recommended him."

Now that we call rather impudent. The Editor of the Gazette gratuitously tells his readers that he did not recommend Mr. Royston, and then, as though the fact of his not having recommended him, was prima facie evidence of incompetency, he adds, nevertheless he is competent, &c. The Editor of the Gazette must have a pretty good bump of self esteem of his own.
