MELILLE, Feb. 12. We thought yesterday morning that the Moors were going to make a general assault on this place, and the signals from fort Victory confirmed us in that opinion; but the orders given for the disposition of the fleet, and other manoeuvres on our side, according to all appearance, totally disconcerted their project, for their whole army immediately returned into the camp. However, before they retired, they made several general discharges, as well of their artillery as musketry, which we returned with great success. One of our zebecks, in particular, greatly annoyed a platoon of Moors, in whose train were many camels. There is no doubt that we killed a considerable number of the enemy in this affair.

There are just arrived from Carthagena 15 pieces of cannon, with their carriages, and a quantity of ammunition, the greatest part of which is destined for the squadron we have here.
