The following proclamation was issued by the President this morning:
The President has with deep sorrow received the information that the Vice President of the U. S., Wm. R. King died on the 18th inst. at his residence in Alabama. The testimony of respect for his eminent station excellent character and high trust and above all, for his career of public services and devotions to this Union, and which for the duration and usefulness is almost without a parallel, in the history of the Republic. The labors of the various departments will be suspended. The secretary of navy will issue orders that appropriate military, and naval honors be rendered to the memory to whom such a tribute will not be formal but heartfelt for people. The public offices will be closed on this day, and badges of mourning will be placed on the executive mansion, and all the executive departments at Washington.
