F. O. Tracy, W. H. Thomas and J. H. Crabtree went "a-fishin" Friday of last week and notwithstanding the decided cold weather, they made a good catch(?). They had had their application in with the government for something like a year for some croppie with which to stock the streams on John Sims' place on the Kiowa and the Thomas' land southwest of Beaver and last Friday they were notified that the government fish car would be at Liberal, Kansas, and would supply them, so they went over to get their fish. They got a nice lot of croppie and succeeded in getting them to the streams in good shape. Some of these days fishing will be good and then we expect trouble will begin for these men will remember the cold, hard trip they had to take in order to stock their ponds and they will not be overly anxious to supply free fishing grounds for the public. However, the fish have been placed in running streams so that it is quite likely that they will eventually be pretty well scattered. Many others ought to avail themselves of the opportunity to secure free fish from the government and stock their ponds and streams. The native fish of the streams are just about all gone and unless some such means are employed, it will not be a great while until fishing in this section will be a thing of the past.
