FRANCE.

Paris, Feb. 12. A grocer of this city, assisted by a person of the religious order, belonging to the convent of Nazareth, has discovered the secret of rendering sea-water fresh and potable, without either the use of fire, or any chemical process. A small quantity of liquid poured into a vessel of sea-water immediately raises a fermentation, and precipitates the saline qualities to the bottom. The expense of taking the salt from a ton of sea-water is said to be 24 sols. Should this supposed discovery be realized, it will doubtless be one of the most useful of the present age.
