A new two-year agreement covering 500 workers in three cities has been signed by the United Rubber Workers and Midwest Rubber Reclaiming Co. The agreement covers members of Local 77, Barberton; Local 42, East St. Louis, Ill., and Local 476, Paramount, Cal.

The agreement increases night shift premium pay from 3 cents to 5 cents hourly for work between 4 P. M. and 8 A. M., provides for improved vacations, paid time off for funerals in the immediate family and make-up pay for jury duty and two weeks' annual armed forces training.

The new vacation schedule, effective Jan. 1, provides one week of vacation after one year of service; two weeks after three years; three weeks after 11 years, and four weeks after 25 years.

A new minimum of $70 weekly vacation pay is set. That's an increase of $20. Also a new vacation scheduling system is provided.

The agreement also provides a transfer provision. It works like this: An employe on subject-to-recall lay-off or on leave of absence from one of the plants, if hired in at another of the company's plants during that time, has prior service restored for purposes of pensions, severance awards, insurance, vacation, hiring rates and probationary periods. An employe laid off during the probationary period will also have his service restored upon recall, the agreement provides.

An improvement in the reporting for work pay clause provides that an employe will be paid for reporting if there is a power shortage or major breakdown affecting an entire plant, department or job.

The agreement has a 60-day wage reopening provision.

URW Special Representative Geo. Bass was chief spokesman for the union in the negotiations in East St. Louis.
