5 SORORITIES
REORGANIZED

CHICAGO - Lake Forest College's five sororities, expelled by their national organizations last summer, have reorganized as local groups.

The student governing body will pass on their new constitutions soon.

The national headquarters of each of the sororities acted after the board of the small liberal arts college in suburban Lake Forest barring discrimination by campus fraternities or sororities in the selection of pledges.

The resolution insisted on selection by the local chapters uninfluenced by the policies of their national organizations.

The trustees said student organizations must be non-discriminatory to be in harmony with the college's admissions policy, which is to accept students without regard to race, religion or nationality.

The resolution was prompted by the action of the national Phi Delta Theta fraternity earlier this year in ordering the Lake Forest chapter to drop a Jewish student it had pledged. The local has been suspended by the national.
