Gushing, ever gushing!
Fall on my ear with their silvery tone,
And memories sweet, that long have flown,
O'er my soul are rushing with "dirge-like moan"
Rushing, ever rushing!
The tall trees waving by the winds—
Waving, ever waving!
With strong, stirring voices they speak to my heart,
In the stillness of night I hear them, and start;
They bid me be fearless, still braving my part—
Braving, ever braving!
The pale stars shining in the sky—
Shining, ever shining!
They tell of a heaven, with beauty rife,
Beyond their limits—beyond earth's strife,
And my spirit is pining for holier life—
Pining, ever pining!
Nightly these voices are speaking to me—
Speaking, ever speaking!
They breathe of the sacred memories of love,
Of the shadowed future I long to prove,
Of the home I am seeking far above—
Seeking, ever seeking!
