The Louisiana Baptist says "more than one half the confessions of the negroes were untrue or exaggerated." The Baptist opposes hanging folks and trying them afterwards; it says when the devil received permission to afflict Job the second time, the resurrection was made to spare his life, and that as we have no more power than the devil has, we ought not to exceed his privileges for doing evil. "The Baptist believes however, that there is sufficient in the Texan troubles to demand southern attention."
