"We have been in a great Confusion here for several Weeks past, on Account of the Negroes rebelling, and rising to have destroyed all the white People on the Island; and it was by meer Accident that it was discovered.....One has been burnt alive, one hanged till he was near dead, then cut down, his Head chopp'd off, and his Body burnt.......There were eleven condemn'd before the 29th ult. but none of them are yet executed, except the two former....I imagine that the greatest Part of the Negroes in the Island were in the Plot. We have so many in Prison now, that we are obliged to send Part of the Militia out of every Parish in the Island, to keep a Guard over them."
