OVER HEAVY MAJORITY
By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON Feb 26
Thought uppermost in the minds of republican
leaders of the house in planning today
for a reorganization meeting Monday
night was that their majority might
be too big to handle.
Majority in the new house will be
two more than three to one and some
leaders expressed anxiety that the
new men might want to take a hand
in selecting their officers to serve for the
next two years.
The opinion was expressed however
that Speaker Gillett and Representative
Mondell of Wyoming the republican
leader will be re-elected. Representative
Mann of Minnesota republican whip
expects opposition. The steering
committee on committees will be named
at the conference and chances are that
most of the present members will hold
over. Election of a steering committee
may be deferred. It was predicted there
would be no important changes in heads
of the big committees and seniority rule
still holds.
