Full Text

LEGHORN, October 23. A Vessel arrived here from Port Mahon
brings an Account that four Danish Men of War were seen off Algiers,
which City was threatened with a fresh Bombardment; in Consequence
of which the Bey had fortified all the Coast, and erected several new Bat-
teries, mounted with six Hundred and seventy Pieces of Cannon and fifty
Mortars. At Algiers there are ten Thousand Men ready to take up Arms;
the Viceroy of Constantina has Orders to raise twenty Thousand more, and
the Viceroy of Titteria was likewise ordered to keep ten Thousand Men
in Readiness, besides a large Body of Moors who were posted along the
Coast to prevent the Enemy's landing. The Emperor of Morocco has
sent three Ambassadors to Algiers, whose Business is a Secret. From
all these Circumstances, it appears that the present Ruler of Algiers is
preparing every Thing, with the greatest Prudence, to put his City in a
State of making the most obstinate Defence, and seems determined not to
agree to any Conditions of Peace whatever.
