Full Text

It has already been announced in our paper that Commodore Barron was transferred from the command of the Navy Yard at Gosport to that of Philadelphia, and in pursuance of this arrangement, the Commodore left here on Wednesday morning for his new destination. Previous to his departure, the civil and military officers attached to his command gave him a dinner as a testimonial of the respect and affection with which his private and official deportment had inspired them. The dinner was given at Capt. Reynolds' Hotel in Portsmouth, on Tuesday last, in a very handsome style, and the company to the number of between 40 and 50 entertained their Guest with a cordiality and warmth of feeling which was particularly gratifying to him. Com Barron is succeeded in the command of the Gosport Navy Yard by that gallant and estimable officer, Com. Warrington.
