Charles Pinckney, late governor, is elected to represent this state in the senate of the United States, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of the hon. John Hunter, and again for six years after.
This appointment by a South Carolina legislature, apparently is a triumph of Jacobinism, and in fact a state degradation. That a sycophantic Jacobin, should represent this state in the federal senate, when men of talents, integrity and virtue are among us, is lamentable, and must lead the rational and honest friends of their country's weal, to look into the causes of such an event.
Porcupine! to your guardianship he is committed—watch over him, altho scarcely worth your attention, and acquaint us with his sly intrigues, occasionally.
