LORD SACKVILLE
He Goes to Paris as Charge d' Affaires, and
Will Ultimately Be Made Minister.
Special to the Indianapolis Journal
Washington, Nov. 27.-Rather an interesting
piece of diplomatic gossip was heard here
to-day. A gentleman who is very well informed
in all diplomatic matters, usually, said to your
correspondent: "Perhaps you are not aware of
the fact, but it is nevertheless true, that Lord
Sackville changed his plans and gave up his trip
to Canada on account of orders from his home
office. I have not
seen any mention of the fact
in the American
newspapers, but it is
a fact that his
Lordship
has been or-
ordered to Paris,
where he will remain
two years as charge d'affaires of the British
legation. The British ambassador to Paris will
be granted two years' leave of absence upon the
arrival of Lord Sackville, and at the expiration
of that two years the former British minister
to Washington will be regularly assigned to
Paris. This I hear from absolutely reliable
sources, and I think that it is the true explana-
tion of his Lordship's plans, and is the reason
why he hastened to Paris direct instead of tak-
ing the trip through Canada which he had con-
templated."
