Utica, May 24.

Extract of a letter to a gentleman in this village, dated Onondago, May 21.

I have only time to inform you, that in consequence of the last alarm, we had at Oswego Falls on Tuesday evening, at least 600 effective militia, and 53 Onondago Indians. On the day following we were reviewed by Gen. Ellis, and our force was about 1500 men; 2000 more were advancing, but were ordered back, there not having been since Monday any appearances of the enemy at Oswego.

The militia (except a few Volunteers and the Indians) were dismissed on Thursday morning.

The enemy are hovering with their gun boats concealed in the inlets of the Lake, between Oswego and the Harbor, and on Tuesday night last captured a boat loaded with flour. We have at Oswego Falls about 900 men, including Indians.
