ANSWER. YES OR NO?
BY SETTIE NOAH RAE
The lovely days of Summer
Are passing swiftly by.
Human beings, like the flowers,
Only bloom to fade and die;
Angry billows round us surging
Down the stream of life we go.
Shall we find a home in heaven
Answer, yes or no?
On the broad highway of action
We are striving all for fame
Though we win and wear our laurels
What are they but a name"
Never think we of the future
As we wander to and fro
Shall we find a home in heaven?
Answer, yes or no?
Climbing up the ragged pathway
Some have reached the dizzy height,
Though we crown them with due honor,
Are they free from care and strife:
If they fail to help a rival,
Who has fallen by the blow
Shall they find a home in heaven.
Answer, yes or no.
In the high and lofty mansions
Ladies, decked with costly lace
Never think of poor unfortunates
Who are drudging at the base,
Though around the weary toilers
Chilly winds of winter blow,
Shall they find a home in heaven.
Answer, yes or no.
In the glittering halls of pleasure
Revel they in gilded sins,
Never pausing for reflection
Let another enter-in.
God have mercy on the wicked,
Poor frail mortals here below.
Shall they find a home in heaven?
