School Wrecked by 3 Boys Is Closed

CHICAGO—The Visitation grade and high school closed its doors to 2,100 students Friday because three boys broke into the building and practically demolished several of the rooms.

Disgruntled because he had been expelled from school, Edward Rider, 13, and two companions broke into the school at night and used axes on desks, furniture and blackboards.

Rider was arrested. Books were burned, inkwells thrown at the walls and clocks. The damage was placed at $15,000.

The other two, taken into custody by stockyards police, were: John Slayter, 15, and John Whelan, 14. They confessed.
