MORE FEDERALISM.
The freemen of the town of Amesbury, being assembled in town meeting, on Thursday, 9th inst. after a federal choice of a Representative for the state Legislature, Mr. James Barley made the following address and motion:
Friends and Fellow Citizens,
Impressed with a love and zeal for the honour and good of my country, as an independent nation and viewing the many insidious attempts made in the Union by unprincipled men to divide the people from the government of their choice, and subjugate us to a foreign power, I am induced to make the following motion: That the answer of our late General Court, to the address of the Legislature of Virginia be read--that each individual may judge for himself whether the principles of true liberty and good government are not therein truly displayed.
The motion was agreed to; the answer was read, and the following vote passed unanimously--"That it is the mind of the town of Amesbury, in town meeting assembled, that the answer to the Virginia Resolutions is a fair display of the spirit of our Constitution; and that the framers and supporters of the above answer, deserve well of their country."
This vote was passed in order to shew the world, that Amesbury, which was ever among the foremost to assert our rights in the former revolution, although by misrepresentation stigmatized as in the antifederal interest, is still happy in our Government, and zealously attached to the present administration.
