ALEXANDRIA
TUESDAY, May 28.

Washington, capt. Myrick, at Nantucket—
By the arrival of the ship George, from the Mediterranean.

Yet, from Alicant, we have information from the Mediterranean to the latter part of March. In the unfortunate affray at Port Mahon, a Midshipman belonging to the Southward, had been killed, and another wounded; the quarrel is understood not to have originated in circumstances calculated to produce a national dispute. It appears that the American squadron still continued there; but was to sail for Constantinople in a few days.

The U. S. schooner, Lt. Claxton, sailed from Alicant, March 21, for Port Mahon, having on board Maj. Hall, from Madrid, with despatches from the Spanish Government to com. Shaw, probably in answer to some communications.

The U.S. ship Alert, capt. Stewart, sailed from Gibraltar April 1, for N. Y. She arrived at Gibraltar on the 3d of March, eight days from Mahon—and has several officers from our squadron, passengers.

The Dutch squadron, from the Mediterranean, arrived at Gibraltar the 20th March.
