KNOXVILLE, June 10.

Letters containing in substance, the account detailed by Captain Rodgers to the Secretary of the Navy, were received in town by the letter mail on Tuesday last--in less than half an hour after its arrival the citizens of Knoxville generally assembled at the Globe Inn; no previous arrangements had been made, the meeting and subsequent proceedings were the effect of a sudden impulse of feeling on hearing the account of the first check which has been given to British insult and aggression, so often repeated on our coast. No one viewed the action as a victory obtained by American arms, the British force was too inferior to place it in this light; but all appeared to consider it as a merited chastisement, inflicted in a manner which attached great credit to Commodore Rodgers.

The most choice liquors that could be procured were set out, and the Toast 'Commodore Rodgers' was drank with great applause--'Commodore Rodgers' was repeated again and again; no other Toast but 'Commodore Rodgers' was given or drank, and on each repetition was accompanied by the cheers of the company. About 12 o'clock (the meeting took place about 11) a procession was formed; in front martial music--the American flag, borne by a Colonel Commandant of the militia--the Governor and Secretary of the State of Tennessee--the Judges of the Supreme Court--Citizens two and two, which marched to the public square, where thirty rounds of artillery were fired, at each discharge some conspicuous character of the revolution, member of the general or state government, were named jointly with Commodore Rodgers, accompanied by the repeated cheers of the company. From the public square the procession marched to the Buck Tavern, & from thence to the Eagle Tavern, at each of which 'Commodore Rodgers' was again drank with renewed applause. The company then returned to the Globe Inn, and after a few more glasses to 'Commodore Rodgers' dispersed, and resumed their respective businesses, which had been entirely suspended from the time of the arrival of the mail.--Gazette.
