Again this year, the real meaning of Christmas was brought to the hearts and minds of hundreds of Jacksonians from all walks of life, as they viewed the 8th annual beautiful and masterful Christmas Scenes, presented by Dr. D. W. White in his suite of offices at 505 N. Farish Street. This year, even more than in the past there was a touch of magic as well as something sacred in the presentation and much of its haunting beauty remains as a rich residue in the memory of all who saw it.
Few, we believe, saw this magnificent production without receiving a spiritual lift and a few, if any, will forget the soft blue light filtering through the reed matting that transformed Dr. White's entrance foyer into a Chinese patio. Through an old Chinese shuttered window, one could see the red-lighted sign that announced this year's pageant "Christmas Dreams."
And as the guests proceeded they found that the

There were four white Christmas bells that caught the shimmering blue of the light from overhead and the red from the coconut lamp that lay beneath on a rattan table, hand-made in Hongkong, China.
As the guests glanced upward, they saw, approaching with elfin grace the first of the five dreams - a string of reindeers above the treetops, bringing Saint Nick in his sleigh from a chimney rooftop. Beneath the roof and through a window, a brightly lit Christmas tree showed a little girl sleeping in her bed, awaiting the arrival of Santa.
Around the trees in the third room, the guests viewed the Second Dream . . . the symbol of holiness rising in the domes and minarets of the Holy City . . Here an Angel guarded the place of Nativity.
The Third Dream lay under a tented canopy of the fourth room, where folds heavenly red velvet curtains were drawn in stage effect to reveal the Wise Men in their camels as they came into the foreground before Bethlehem.
Passing through a small bamboo grove, viewers stepped up into the doorway of a back patio from which could be seen the Fourth and Fifth Dreams . . . On a buffet lay a 'horn of plenty' filled with cakes, fruits and wine, symbols of a rich harvest for those who hunger and trust in God's mercies and goodness. Above the buffet hung a gold rimmed mirror that reflected the 5th and Final Dream of the Pageant t - the door of a stable through which was seen the image of the Virgin Mary and the Christ-Child in the manger.
On the beautiful countenance of the Virgin Mary and in the tender uplifted hand of hope and faith of the Christ child, were mirrored the spiritual values of our religious faith and again we can sincerely believe Dr. White when he says he 'bent his knees in prayer to the Christ Child in order that he might reveal to his fellowmen during this Holy Season "The Dream of a Christian" . . . the beauty that can exist within the human heart."
