PROGRESSIVE ANNISTON.

GOING TO MAKE A SPLENDID EXHIBIT OF ITS INDUSTRIES.

A Train of Cars Built in the Model City from Engine to Rear Bumper.

An Example of Progressiveness Winston Might Follow.

From the Lynchburg Virginian.

We learn from the Baltimore Sun that the rapidly developing young city, Anniston, Ala., is about to give an example on wheels of progressiveness as a manufacturing point. Through the enterprise of some of its leading capitalists and business men, a superb train of cars is at an early day to make a tour of the principal Eastern and Western cities. This train is to be built in Anniston, from engine to rear coach, out of Calhoun county iron, steel and timber. Not a thing, except the paint and window glass and the brass mountings on the engine, will be brought from outside points. The train is to consist of an engine--"The Anniston" --a flat car, a gondola, a freight car, a stock car, a passenger coach, a buffet car, and a boudoir car, every one of them made in Anniston's Car Wheel Works and the Alabama Car Shops. The freight cars will be painted red, with banners on the side bearing these words: "This car contains samples of the natural and artificial products of Calhoun county and Anniston." There will be specimens of all the mineral and timber wealth and agricultural and manufacturing products of Anniston and Calhoun county. Each one of the train's crew will be dressed in a grey suit, the cloth made out of wool from Calhoun county sheep, and wove at the Anniston factory, the suits be made by an Anniston tailor. The train will go North via Chattanooga, Lynchburg and Baltimore and New York, thence over the New York Central and Grand Trunk lines to London, Canada, and thence back to Anniston via Detroit, Cincinnati, Louisville and Nashville. The grand total of miles traveled will be 1,462, and seventeen days will be made in making the swing around the circle.

Here is a sample of enterprise indeed. As an advertising scheme it is immense. It is bold, daring and original. It shows that the young blood of the South is leaping through the arteries of energetic and wide-awake men. Anniston is a young place, but it is going ahead with a rush. With such manifestations of enterprise as the above it is no surprise that it is prospering marvelously. This scheme will give it a wide and unique advertising, and the name of Anniston will be on many tongues which never spoke it before.
