NORTH ARKANSAS.

For the Arkansas State Gazette.

To The Editor: Sir—In your paper of last week, there was a short notice of Bethany College. Permit me to supply some omissions, and to correct one mistake. The location is in Brooke county, Virginia, at Bethany, the residence or villa of Mr. Alex. Campbell, seven miles from Wellsburg. Alexander Campbell is President, A. F. Ross professor of ancient language, Charles Stuart (of Ky.) professor of algebra and mathematics, Dr. R. Richardson professor of chemistry, geology, &c., &c., and Mr. W. K. Pendleton (of Va.) professor of natural philosophy, &c. The president to act as professor of mental philosophy, evidences of christianity, morals, and political economy.

The collegiate year ends on the 4th day of July, of each year. The entire expense for tuition, boarding, washing, &c., is $150 per annum.

Such is the popularity of the institution, that the entire number that can be accommodated is entered before the sessions begin. As far as security of morals is concerned, there is not an institution in our country presents so sure a guaranty. There are no groceries or places of dissipation nearer than seven miles. Every inducement to virtue is held out, and the most decided infliction of the rules on the lawless and disobedient.

Bethany College is a monument of human energy, the whole having been completed, thus far, under a monetary pressure such as five counties have not felt. It speaks volumes in behalf of that remarkable man, Alex. Campbell, whose doings and sayings are more indelibly impressed on the American people than any man now living.
