New Patent Fire-Engine.
A FIRE ENGINE has recently been invented by a Mr. ELIJAH ORMSBEE, of Providence, in the State of Rhode-Island. The proprietor has obtained a patent for his invention. The following description of the machine is given in a Providence paper :
"This Engine possesses the following advantages over the English Pump Engine : It is of a simple structure, consisting of no other machinery than a Crank and a Screw, and can therefore be afforded much cheaper, and is less liable to be out of order; it takes up but about half the room, and by the application of the same force will throw water one quarter further. Its simplicity, cheapness and compactness, will render it convenient for many domestic purposes, as washing windows, watering gardens, &c. The same properties will render it equally useful on shipboard, where it will not only answer its general purpose of quenching fire, but, by the help of a hose, will wet every sail in the ship."
