A Times' correspondent at St. Petersburg says a number of important arrests have been made in Moscow. These arrests are due to the extra vigilance of the police, owing to the near approach of the coronation of the Czar. There is no reason to believe that any special plotting is on foot to prevent the coronation.
Still Rising.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., March 8.—The river rose two inches last night. This indicates that the rise here will continue for some days.
The Flood at Helena.
HELENA, Ark., March 8.—The river rose a scant half inch during the past twelve hours. It is thought the levees can be held here now against any probable emergency, as they were maintained last night against a terrific gale that sent the water dashing over in many places. The situation is still critical, however. Below Helena the country is all under water from five to fifteen feet. The backwater from Hubbard is appearing in the lower end of the city. If no more breaks occur, there will be no overflow in Helena.
Trying to Prove Poison.
OMAHA, March 8.—In December last Matthew Ripack, leader of the Bohemian brass band, died suddenly, and three weeks afterward his widow married again. Suspicions have arisen that Ripack was poisoned, as symptoms before he died indicated arsenic poisoning. Just before he died he told a friend that he had been poisoned, and urged that an investigation be had. Today he was exhumed and his stomach taken out to be sent to a Chicago chemist for analysis. A coroner's jury has been summoned and the examination of witnesses is now in progress. The case excites considerable interest.
